Belfast Sewerage Rehabilitation and Upgrade Programme
Belfast
This four year contract involved 22 work packages to upgrade the sewerage infrastructure in Belfast.
This included:
• Sewer rehabilitation works
• Construction of new or replacement sewers to alleviate hydraulic deficiencies in the sewer network
• Modification, refurbishment, upgrading and construction of new combined sewer overflows (CSOs)
• Construction of storm water attenuation tanks (on and off line) to overcome CSO/Pumping Station discharges to receiving watercourses.
The construction methods used to rehabilitate and replace the sewers focused on the adoption of “no-dig” technologies to mitigate disruption and minimise waste caused by open-cut trench works construction.
Over 12km of sewers were rehabilitated by various methods:
• 4,537m by Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP),
• 1,033m by pipe-bursting
• 435m by auger boring
• 5,172m by open cut.
Pipe diameters varied from 225mm to 1150mm.
