Lifford Bridge
Donegal
This project involved the refurbishment of concrete elements of a 3-span concrete arch bridge. The carriageway surfacing was removed to allow concrete repairs and new waterproofing treatment to the deck. The bridge deck joints at the abutments were also replaced. The existing parapet was removed and replaced with a new system. Further concrete repairs and the installation of silane coating to the outer face and soffit of the bridge with access provided via the top-down / hanging scaffold system as other systems would be compromised by the tidal nature of the river.
All repair materials had to be carefully selected to ensure their suitability in a saline environment.
Finally, reconstruction of the carriageway and street lighting with introduction of a new cycle path was completed. All works were completed three weeks ahead of schedule in a two phase construction sequence across the full width of the bridge.
