Alexandra Dock Highly Commended by CECA

Judges impressed by innovative approach.

The GRAHAM Lagan Construction Group Joint Venture project team at Alexandra Dock, Green Port Hull, was recently highly commended by the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) at its Annual Yorkshire & Humberside Awards 2017.

CECA is the representative body for companies who work day-to-day to deliver, upgrade, and maintain the country's infrastructure.

The project, the UK’s first offshore wind assembly hub, was awarded this accolade for its innovative approach.

The judges noted the effective management of complex settlement issues and off-site precast pile capping beam units. The wide range of project challenges that were managed also impressed the judges.

The project itself required the reclamation of around 7.5 hectares of the Humber estuary, which included 780,000 cubic metres of material, 650m of quay wall, a new roll-on roll-off ramp, 225 33m long x 92 tonne concrete piles and 760 25m long sheet piles.

The project used the largest dredger in the world, the Manu Pekka, which was on its maiden voyage. Each scoop of the colossal machine’s bucket moved 14 cubic metres of mud.
