Works on the Birkenhead Future High Streets Fund (FHSF) project on behalf of Wirral Council is progressing well.
Let’s take a look a what has been happening and upcoming works….
Conway Street/Europe Boulevard
- Initial site investigation works have been undertaken to locate existing services and other utilities that may impact construction works.
- With existing traffic signals being replaced as part of the works, temporary traffic signals have been established which include designated pedestrian routes.
- The central reservation on Conway Street between Argyle Street and Europa Boulevard has been removed in preparation for the new pavement construction.
Grange Road/Charing Cross
- Preparation work for the new tree pits has been completed, with the holes having been back filled temporarily until work begins to start the replacement paving.
- Works have commenced on Charing Cross junction, with traffic signals being replaced with temporary signals and the start of traffic management arrangements.
Upcoming Works….
- On Conway Street, following the surfacing to the central reserve and traffic switch, the team will be continuing to work beyond the bus station to Hemingford Street to prepare for the new cycle lane.
- Works will commence on Europa Boulevard in the coming weeks, with the initial phase of works starting on the existing roundabout on the southbound carriageway.
Good News Story
Reducing waste and helping the community, GRAHAM donated 400 face masks with a value of £600 to local charity Wired – who provide free support and PPE to unpaid workers for their volunteer Carers programme received half of the donation with the other half donated to Birkenhead Court Care Home in Bidston.
The local charities were delighted to receive the donation!
