GRAHAM has been awarded the contract to build a new residential care home in Enfield, London through the Procure Partnerships Framework.

Led by Enfield Council, the Reardon Court Extra Care Home will provide affordable housing for older people in an assisted living facility, allowing them to live independently with access to round-the-clock care. It is being developed on the site of a former care home in Cosgrove Close, which was granted planning permission in 2021.

Comprising 70 units, the home will provide a range of communal and amenity spaces, including a multi-use hobby room, library, and hairdressing area for residents, as well as a separate office for staff.

In terms of the structure, the main building is rectangular shaped and features two internal courtyards separated by a single-storey building clad with brick, which will house the residents’ communal areas. It will be connected to two three-storey buildings, also clad in brick, which will accommodate the 70 units, all of which will feature balconies facing the courtyard. Externally, there will be an allotment area and green spaces populated with trees, seating areas, and parking for visitors.

Andrius Jurevicius, Contracts Manager at GRAHAM, said: “We’re proud to be partnering with the London Borough of Enfield on this new care home, which will guarantee independence, safety, and comfort for local residents for years to come. We have a growing population of older people in the UK who deserve access to the same quality of life and independence at retirement age, which is why developments like these are important and needed.”

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Health & Social Care, Cllr Alev Cazimoglu, said: “I am delighted that the Council has come a step closer to delivering this inventive new scheme The project will increase the supply of high quality housing for local people in our borough and ‘raise the bar’ regarding our offer to people who require extra support and care later in life.

“For some people this project will provide an alternative option to residential care. For others, it is an opportunity to down-size to an accessible environment which is better suited to meeting their housing, care and support needs.”

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Housing, Cllr George Savva, said: “This is a progressive, engaging scheme which increases the supply of affordable rented accommodation tailored for older people in Enfield.

“As residents with additional needs move out of their current homes and into Reardon Court, the number of family sized homes available elsewhere in the borough will increase, so this scheme will not only play a valuable role in providing extra care accommodation for older residents, but it will also play a valuable role in tackling the wider housing crisis in our borough.”
