We’re delighted that Imperial’s School of Public Health is a finalist in the ‘Climate Action’ category at this year’s Constructing Excellence SECBE Awards, which recognise and celebrate the best in construction from across the London and South East.

At GRAHAM, we are passionate about delivering lasting impact. Our environmental mission is “to help protect and improve the environment, conserve resources and tackle climate change for the benefit of current and future generations” - this is fundamental to how we do business.

In 2021, we were appointed by Imperial to construct a new nine-storey collaborative and flexible space for The School of Public Health within Imperial’s White City Campus, with the aim to achieve better health in the population.

The project team were keen to align closely with the University and participate in their borough-wide research initiative. Grant funding, secured by the Centre of Low Emission Construction (CLEC) at the University’s Environmental Research Group, enabled the development of a borough-wide construction site monitoring website to automate and standardise processes.

By taking part and providing access to our ‘real world’ live emissions data, our construction site was contributing to research and development on the impact of dust and emissions on local air quality and health across the borough and the construction industry.

Against this backdrop, the project team took a low emissions approach to reduce the impacts of construction on local air quality and the environment.

Lianne Taylor, Head of Environmental Sustainability at GRAHAM, said:

“GRAHAM has a responsibility to deliver climate action. It’s great to receive recognition for meeting our climate ambitions on this project, which achieved substantial results – trialing a solar powered hybrid generator and reducing idling times by 12%.”

Winners will be announced on Thursday 27th June 2024 at the awards ceremony in London.
