For the last eleven years, we have presented an annual student award and scholarship in memory of our former colleague Harry McMullen. Harry was a mentor and keen supporter of our young engineers during his 40 year career with GRAHAM and our annual award is our commitment that we will continue to recognise and nurture aspiring young engineers in Harry’s memory.
This year we are delighted to present The Harry McMullen award to Billy Martin.
Amongst incredible competition, Billy stood out for his enthusiasm, communication and technical ability, proving himself to be a valuable team member across both of the projects he was involved in during his placement year. Working on the technically challenging Aurs Road project and the public realm works in Birkenhead with a heavy public interface, Billy gained valuable insight and experience in a variety of civil engineering works. Both placement assessors commended Billy for his work ethic, diligence, willingness to learn and his overall engagement with the project team. Values that Harry would be proud of himself.
Billy said: “It’s a true honour to receive the Harry McMullen Award. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the support and expertise of everyone at GRAHAM. I’m especially grateful to the teams on the Birkenhead FHSF and Aurs Road Realignment projects your time, guidance, and teamwork have been invaluable in my growth as an engineer. This year has only strengthened my passion for civil engineering, and I’m excited for the future opportunities with GRAHAM.”
Billy is currently completing his MEng at the University of Leeds whereupon he will return to GRAHAM in the summer of 2026 and begin what promises to be a fulfilling career.
Well done Billy!
