The British LGBT Awards are a prominent annual London-based ceremony celebrating individuals, organisations and allies who promote equality, diversity and inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community. The awards recognise trailblazers across a range of categories, including business, celebrity, media and community activism, highlighting those who create positive social impact and champion LGBTQ+ rights.
Founded in 2014 by Sarah Garrett, the awards are widely publicised with national media coverage, including features in the Daily Mirror, and attract significant celebrity attendance and engagement.
This year, GRAHAM’s Hugh Dempsey, Managing Director for Facilities Management, has been nominated and subsequently shortlisted for the Business Ally category.
The Business Ally award celebrates non-LGBTQ+ individuals who actively support, champion and advocate for the inclusion of LGBTQ+ employees, both within their organisations and across wider society. Nominees demonstrate a sustained commitment to driving diversity and inclusion initiatives over the previous 12 months.
Hugh has been nominated in recognition of his commitment and leadership as the Executive Sponsor of GRAHAM’s Building Equality Network. Since the network’s launch, he has consistently supported new ideas and initiatives, attended meetings to provide guidance and feedback, and used his influence as a senior leader to champion LGBTQ+ colleagues across the business. Hugh is also completing Executive Sponsor training with Radius and continues to go above and beyond in his advocacy. He exemplifies genuine allyship, ensuring colleagues have the support, visibility and recognition they deserve.
Hugh will be competing against other allies from organisations such as Bank of Ireland UK, Sky and Omnicom Media Group. Notably, he is the only nominee in this category representing the construction industry, which is a significant achievement for both Hugh and GRAHAM.
Other categories this year include nominees from companies such as British Airways, Channel 4 and Booking.com, along with well-known public figures such as Alan Carr, Charli XCX and Cynthia Erivo. Being shortlisted alongside such high-profile organisations and individuals is a proud moment for GRAHAM and demonstrates the impact of Hugh’s ongoing commitment as an ally.
We wish Hugh every success at the awards on 28th May, and regardless of the outcome, we are proud and fortunate to have such a dedicated ally supporting our LGBTQ+ colleagues at GRAHAM.
