Project summary

Over the course of three distinct phases, we successfully completed the multi-million pound refurbishment of Edinburgh’s “premier shopping destination” - Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre.

Covering 420,000 square feet, and home to shops, restaurants, a cinema, day spa and a variety of local historical attractions, the Centre provides the perfect mix of retail, leisure and dining options to over 4m visitors per annum.

Our expert team contributed to design solutions and provided value engineering proposals throughout our robust operational programme, which included the relocation of the management suite, mall decoration and the construction of a three-storey extension.

The detail

This transformational project has confirmed Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre’s position as Scotland’s must unique, mixed-use retail and leisure destination.

With an enviable waterfront location, adjacent to the Royal Yacht Britannia, the shopping centre benefitted from our deep understanding of tenant fit-out projects and an appreciation of multi-stakeholder requirements. Phase one incorporated the relocation of the management suite, combined with mall decoration over a tight four-month programme.

Phase two involved the construction of a new 85t steel structure and the strip out of floors to create new restaurants and partitioning. The construction of a three-storey extension to the Centre’s entrance, to facilitate a retail unit for H&M complemented by internal reconfiguration works, summarised Phase three.

As a measure of the attention to detail required, we installed 10,000 façade fins of specialised cladding.
