Project summary

GRAHAM has completed construction works for Procter & Gamble’s (P&G) new laundry beads making facility, located in Gray’s, Essex. The £16.6 million project completed on schedule and involved constructing an additional manufacturing line equipped to produce Lenor and Fairy Beads, as used in washing machines and tumble dryers. This expansion enabled the company to meet the demands of its continued growth in the European market, with the new production line significantly increasing output. Plus, with the building designed to be future proof, this allows for the installation of a fourth production line when required.

Project detail

This project encompassed significant civil works, including the installation of new bulk delivery bays to supply the newly integrated silo tank system. This upgrade streamlined operations and increased the delivery capacity of raw materials. A total of 150 metres of preloaded pipe bridges were fabricated and installed, enabling the transfer of various utilities across the site and over the packaging building. These links connect the tank farm and multiple process areas to the product line while ensuring uninterrupted existing capacity throughout the works.

In addition, a fire rated and sprinklered dry pallet store was constructed beneath the automated transfer link. This critical facility supports the plant’s operation by moving finished products efficiently from multiple production lines to the distribution centre for onward shipping.

This project delivered substantial infrastructure enhancements that future proof operations, improve efficiency and increase capacity. The integration of advanced material handling systems and optimised utility connections ensures the facility is well-positioned to meet current and future production demands.

What we had to say

We’re delighted to have completed construction on such an important manufacturing facility for P&G. This new plant will allow them to maintain their dominant global market share, ensuring they have a competitive edge, not just today, but in the future. We are glad to have built this facility which will allow P&G to achieve this.
