Connecting Communities
This landmark £114 million project features the UK’s first twinleaf cable-stayed swing bridge, spanning 184 metres across the River Clyde. As principal contractor and designer, we have delivered a transformative infrastructure solution that enhances connectivity between communities, reduces traffic congestion, and serves as a catalyst for economic regeneration in an area affected by industrial decline.
Project Detail
The bridge’s innovative design required precise engineering to accommodate its moving structure while minimising environmental impact. Transporting and installing the bridge sections demanded meticulous planning and execution, with components fabricated in Holland and Belgium before being transported by barge over a seven-day journey. The installation required 48-hour operations for each section over the bridge pivot piers. Additionally, working across three local authority areas (Renfrewshire, West Dunbartonshire, and Glasgow) required complex stakeholder management and coordination.
What they had to say
“I’m delighted to see the opening of the new Renfrew Bridge as we successfully complete this transformational project which will enhance the local economy, attract new investment and developments to the riverside, and create thousands of new job opportunities for local people”.
